A lot of times I cook a theme-y holiday breakfast, like heart-shaped french toast for Valentine's Day (with strawberries and Nutella since we can't get enough of Nutella around here) or pistachio flavored crepes for St. Patrick's Day. Okay, maybe pistachio flavored isn't exactly Irish, but I was going off the green theme there, dig it?
Sometimes breakfasts are lazy and don't get on the table until 11:00am, which is actually late for us because we can't seem to sleep in on weekends -- to excited to get up and start the fun part of the week. I put on the girliest music, wear one of my gifted aprons, and open and shut cabinets more times than you can count. Anyone who has been in a kitchen with me can attest to my willy-nilly style of cooking and baking -- I'm kind of all over the place. The best part about breakfast is that you're allowed to take your time, especially on weekends. I feel like during the week I am in a rush to get home from work and throw something into the oven. I meal plan throughout my day, and although I enjoy it because I love food, there's something to be said about weekending. I can take my time in the kitchen and use up whatever kitchen staples we have left at the end of the work week. There is always bread, eggs, and milk on hand, so crepes and french toast are a go-to.
Well, I could go on and on, but there you have it. An ode to breakfast.
